Recruitment

It is recommended that there are at least seven governors on the panel as there may be difficulty in finding a time when everyone is available. Any person with a conflict of interest e.g. staff governor where they have a vested interest, any governor may be related to a candidate or close friend etc. must not be part of the panel.Associate members (not pupils) can be part of the recruitment panel, however the Board will need to decide whether they have a vote, and ensure that the majority of panel members are governors. The head teacher cannot be involved in the process of recruiting a new head teacher.

Quorum: There must be a minimum of 3 governors. It is recommended that the panel always contains an odd number of governors, so that there will be no possibility of a tie vote. Decision making is a majority vote. The final members of the panel must attend both the shortlisting process and the Interview process.

At least one Governor on the panel must have completed the Safer Recruitment training.

Pay Panel

Membership shall consist of at least three governors, not including staff governors. The head teacher will attend in an advisory capacity and will withdraw when his salary is under discussion.
