Curriculum overview

From year 7 to year 11, students’ knowledge allow them to talk about a variety of topics, starting from simple descriptions of themselves, their families and their pets to discussing more complex topics like education and environment. Students use a variety of resources, from text books to authentic materials and study a variety of texts. They also develop translation skills as by the new curriculum requirement.

Aims

Develop knowledge of Spanish language and culture.

KS3:

Year 7 – Topics Taught

Myself, my family, my pets, my school, my house, my free time

Year 8 – Topics Taught

The weather, my town, my plans for the weekend, movies and TV programmes, holidays in the past, Spanish speaking countries in South America, Food, ordering in a restaurant

Year 9 – Topics Taught

Clothes, school uniform, shopping, healthy lifestyle.

Year 10 curriculum early start: holidays in present, past and future, being a tourist in Spain

Method of Assessment at KS3:

Writing tasks, reading and listening tasks, role plays, improvised conversations, presentations

KS4:

Year 10 – Topics Taught

  • My school
  • My routine
  • Work and future plans

Year 11 – Topics Taught

  • My free time
  • My local area
  • Healthy lifestyle

Method of Assessment at KS4 (include Exam boards and weightings)

Year 10:

Written controlled assessments at the end of each half term . The two best pieces of writing will be sent to the Edexcel exam board and constitutes 30% of the final GCSE grade.

Year 11:

Speaking controlled assessments (internally conducted) at the end of Autumn Term 1 and 2, Spring 1. The two best recordings will be sent to the Edexcel exam board and constitutes 30% of the final GCSE grade.

Reading exam at the end of the year, constitutes 20% of the final GCSE grade

Listening exam at the end of the year, constitutes 20% of the final GCSE grade
