Curriculum overview
Design and Technology encourages students to become independent and creative thinkers through using a variety of materials.
Design and Technology is a subject that students enjoy and can relate to modern everyday life.
Students will learn skills in Food, Textiles and Product Design.
Students must study at least one aspect of Design and Technology at KS3.
At KS4 students can select one of the Design and Technology subjects to study for GCSE.
We also offer AS Level and A Level Textiles and Product Design.
Design and Technology is a multi-billion pound business and provides the country with many jobs.
Students who study Design and Technology can go on to become Architects, Engineers, Product Designers, Industrial Designers, Fashion Designers, Automotive Designers, Chefs, Graphic Designers and Computer Games Designers to name but a few.
Aims
Students will learn skills that they can transfer to everyday life. Design and Technology is a subject that can be studied at University and the courses we offer at St Mary’s provide students with a good foundation for further study.
Studenst will learn to analyse existing products and develop ideas of their own.
Students will develop designing skills adn become independent creative learners.
This subject offers students the opportunity to look outside of school and develop their own tastes and opinions.
Design and Technology teaches students to become informed consumers and take responsibility for the environment.
